Open for business – after 30 years
A shop in Redhill is due to reopen its doors on Thursday for the first time in more than 30 years.
The corner shop in Linkfield Street has stood empty, and latterly derelict, for more than a generation.
Last in use as a hairdressers in the 1970s, the Victorian building's recent history is shrouded in mystery but it is believed it was passed to a Scotsman who went north of the border soon after, and could not be traced.
The ownership of the property came to light about two years ago on the death of the owner, and 53 Linkfield Street went back on the market and was revamped by a property developer.
It is due to reopen as Cullenders Food Store and Delicatessen, being run by husband and wife team Marc and Joelle Cullender.
They moved to Redhill last year looking for a shop having given up their jobs in London as an advertising accountant and and personal assistant.
Marc said: "It's been a grocers, stationers, tobacconists, a sweetshop during the war - there's a lot of history."
